When we think of love languages, we often picture words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, and receiving gifts—the ways we express and receive love in relationships. But there’s another, often unspoken, love language that leaders, educators, and changemakers embody every day: advocacy.
At its core, advocacy is love in action.
At its core, advocacy is love in action. It is the willingness to speak up, show up, and fight for what is right—not just for ourselves but for those whose voices are unheard, whose struggles go unseen, and whose paths need clearing. Advocacy is a deep expression of care, commitment, and connection. It is love that fights. Love that refuses to be silent. Love that demands change.
Love Looks Like Words in Action
Advocacy is words of affirmation on a grand scale.
It is looking at someone and saying, "I see you. I hear you. You matter to me. You matter to us."
Whether we are advocating for equity in education, access to mental health resources, leadership that prioritizes people over power, or just human decency and respect, we are using our voices to affirm the worth of others. We are amplifying voices that have been drowned out by systems, policies, or societal norms that do not serve them. We are standing up for a better world and a more aligned, caring universe by elevating those we love and lead.
To advocate is to believe so deeply in someone’s humanity that you refuse to let the world ignore them, overlook them, or quietly push them aside.

Advocacy is Love as a Verb
Advocacy is an act of service in its most potent form.
It is more than speaking—it is doing.
It’s showing up at school board meetings to demand better resources for students.
It’s pushing for policies that ensure leaders lead with integrity.
It’s organizing, mobilizing, and educating—not just for ourselves but for everyone who will come after us.
True advocacy does not wait for permission. It moves, it builds, it shifts. It is the type of love that changes the world.
Advocacy is Investing in Others
Advocacy is quality time given to a cause greater than ourselves.
It is choosing to invest in the growth, safety, and success of others.
It’s the educator who stays after school to mentor a struggling student.
It’s the leader who creates space for others to rise.
It’s the person who refuses to look away when injustice is present.
Advocacy is about holding the door open for others and making sure it stays open long after we are gone.
Advocacy is Leadership Rooted in Love
If love is the act of prioritizing someone’s well-being, then advocacy is love that extends beyond our immediate circles.
It is love for the future.
Love for justice.
Love for the next generation. It honors our ancestors and everyone who came and fought before us to make this world a better place.
As leaders, educators, and visionaries, we must remember that love in action is the best kind of leadership. What greater way to show our respect and acknowledge another’s humanity than to push for those who do not have the capacity, the freedom, or the ability to stand up for themselves?
